Team Lead, Underwriting Operations – Linx Underwriting Team

This is a hybrid role with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Toronto office, in line with Aon’s Smart Working policy.

The salary range for this position is $ 73,400 - $97,900 . The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location .

What the day will look like

In this role, you will lead the daytoday activities of a team of underwriting assistants supporting the Linx underwriting portfolio. You’ll ensure service excellence on quotes, renewals and midterm adjustments, while continuously looking for ways to streamline processes and improve the experience for underwriters, brokers and clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the daily workflow and allocation of underwriting assistant resources to ensure quotes, renewals and midterm adjustments are processed in line with agreed service levels.
  • Working closely with underwriting managers to ensure support capacity and capabilities are aligned to planned growth in the Linx business.
  • Partnering with Aon and thirdparty brokers to identify and implement opportunities to drive efficiency and improve how we operate.
  • Ensuring adherence to underwriting standards, authorities and good practice, minimizing risk and maximizing efficiency while maintaining compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines.
  • Overseeing accurate and timely data capture on relevant systems, liaising with Operations, Claims, Compliance and other business units as required.
  • Enabling underwriting assistants to work closely with underwriters to support portfolios both in the office and at Lloyd’s, helping to build technical underwriting knowledge within the team.
  • Contributing to the evolution and optimization of processes and procedures, striving for continuous and collaborative improvement across Linx operations.
  • Leading statistical analysis and interpretation of data, including preparation of regular and adhoc reporting.
  • Building and maintaining a strong internal and external profile, developing effective partnerships with customers, brokers and colleagues.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Strong leadership and people management experience in an operations or underwriting support environment, with a track record of directing workflow and developing team capabilities
  • High level of numeracy and literacy, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with data and reports
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across business units and with brokers and other external stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines, prioritize effectively and adapt to changing business needs
  • Experience in underwriting or insurance operations (ideally including Lloyd’s or specialty markets); an additional language is desired
