This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Operations Professional 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Operations Scheduler with strong scheduling expertise and the ability to coordinate effectively across teams to support safe and efficient operations.

This position reports to the TA 55 Operations Facility Operations Manager and is responsible for coordinating facility operational tasks to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution in alignment with Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs). The Operations Scheduler develops and maintains integrated schedules that support both outage and daily operations, ensuring maintenance, operations, and project activities are aligned within a highly regulated environment. The role may also collaborate with multiple organizations across the facility.

Nuclear Operations Professional 2 $96,600 - $158,000

Key responsibilities include reviewing work packages to verify that the facility configuration supports planned activities, assessing work scopes to identify compatible tasks, and adjusting schedules to ensure safe and efficient execution. The scheduler will participate in daily work update meetings to provide Operations updates and maintain awareness of activities that may affect facility operations. The individual will complete required training to develop a strong understanding of facility requirements and their operational impacts.

Nuclear Operations Professional 3 $117,200 - $195,400

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the specialist is also expected to contribute to developing and improving scheduling procedures and documentation, provide input on assessments and corrective actions, and support efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the scheduling process.

This level requires providing expert consultative support to both internal and external customers.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Intermediate knowledge of DOE Orders, regulatory requirements, and compliance with Hazard Category 2/3 nuclear facilities or accelerators.
  • Intermediate knowledge of facility operations, work control processes, and safety frameworks including Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and Conduct of Operations.
  • Intermediate experience interpreting technical work packages, safety basis documents, and operational requirements in a highly regulated environment.
  • Intermediate experience in safety analysis, environmental compliance, and security requirements related to nuclear or high hazard facility operations.
  • Intermediate experience with computerized maintenance management or work control systems, including reporting, data analysis, and performance trending.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across teams, mentor personnel, and resolve complex operational issues.


Additional Job Requirements for Nuclear Operations Professional 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Strong knowledge of development and implementation of improvements in procedures, policies, and processes
  • Strong knowledge and consultative experience with institutional and organizational policies, practices, and procedures, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement.
  • Strong knowledge of Laboratory business and operations systems and standard software applications.
  • Strong-level knowledge of the scope, processes, methodologies and requirements for the particular operation or process involved with this role.


Education/Experience at 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at 3 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

DOE Order 426.2a requires Baccalaureate, 2 years of experience and 1 year of nuclear experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active Q Clearance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of TA-55 and experience working with Operations
  • Experience working knowledge using Primavera P6, Maximo/Asset Suites


Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees maybe eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP : This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
