Underwriting Specialist

Under minimal supervision, contributes to the growth and profitability of assigned specialty product line(s) through marketing, underwriting, and managing of products and services of moderate risks. Works within defined limits and authorities on assignments of moderate complexity. Some risks may require special handling or unusual coverage. Demonstrates functional technical knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures, and techniques to include coverage issues, product lines, marketing, relevant systems, and competition in the marketplace.

Responsibilities

1. Work independently and autonomously on all but the most complex accounts/cases (subject to required process oversight).

2. Underwrite policies within own underwriting authority. Make decisions on whether to accept business by making analytical, data-driven decisions based on data and information provided, including pricing the risk.

3. Manage own portfolio of brokers/agents and clients. Leverage his/her market presence and knowledge to bring in new business where possible, and act as a representative for Liberty. These relationships will be with senior/market-leading brokers and/or key agents.

4. Maintain a strong market presence, including established trading relationships with agents / brokers. Constantly looking to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
