About the Opportunity We are working with a confidential, nationally recognized specialty insurance carrier known for underwriting complex risks with strong discipline, financial stability, and longterm market presence. They are seeking a Senior Construction Underwriter to support and grow a national construction portfolio. Role Overview The Senior Construction Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting complex construction risks across the U.S., with meaningful authority over pricing, structure, and terms. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong broker relationships, and the ability to balance growth with disciplined risk selection. Key Responsibilities Underwriting & Risk Evaluation Underwrite new and renewal construction business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and appetite Evaluate complex construction risks, including: General contractors and subcontractors Large commercial and multistate projects Specialty and higherhazard construction exposures Review project details, contract language, limits, deductibles, and loss history Structure coverage terms and pricing aligned with risk quality and profitability goals Exercise independent underwriting judgment on complex or nonstandard risks Portfolio & Strategy Management Manage an assigned construction book to achieve premium, retention, and loss ratio targets Monitor portfolio performance and emerging construction risk trends Contribute to underwriting strategy and appetite refinement Broker & Market Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail brokers nationwide Act as a technical resource to broker partners on construction risk Participate in broker meetings, presentations, and industry events as needed Collaboration & Leadership Work closely with claims, loss control, actuarial, and underwriting leadership teams Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced underwriters when appropriate Support underwriting best practices and continuous improvement initiatives Qualifications 7-15+ years of commercial construction underwriting experience Strong technical expertise across construction risk types and project structures Experience underwriting complex, largelimit, or multistate construction accounts Ability to manage referrals and exercise meaningful underwriting authority Strong analytical, communication, and relationshipmanagement skills Professional designations (CPCU, AU, ARM, or similar) preferred Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary (commensurate with experience) Annual performancebased bonus Comprehensive benefits package Longterm stability with a financially strong organization Flexible work arrangement (remote or hybrid within the U.S.) Why This Role Join a technically strong underwriting organization with national reach Underwrite complex, interesting construction business with real authority Collaborative culture with strong claims and loss control support Longterm career opportunity within a stable specialty carrier
