Job Description

Interested in a career in Underwriting? We are hiring for entry-level underwriters to learn and grow on our team.

Entry level Underwriting position which includes working directly with Advisors ("Field") and Clients. This position is responsible for underwriting insurance applications within strict guidelines up to $2,000,000.00 of life insurance face amount and $5,000.00 of monthly benefits on disability insurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receives and reviews applications from Advisors to determine insurability and categorize the risk the individual client represents to determine the appropriate premium and rating class. Reviewing and assessing medical and non medical requirements. Reviews this information and partners with medical director, coach, leadership and peers as needed to determine insurability. Actively manages case load of 250 plus applications.

  • Direct contact with field force to gather financial and medical information on clients, communicate underwriting risk assessment decisions and to assist the field throughout the underwriting process.

  • May travel to field offices, presents via Microsoft Teams, conference calls or other technology as necessary to coach and train advisors on the underwriting process and to build relationships with financial advisors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience

  • 1 - 3 years relevant experience required

  • Demonstrated analytical skills

  • Demonstrated decision making skills

  • This role requires employees to work on site (3 days/week) at our Minneapolis headquarters for training (approximately 3 6 months). After successful training, employee is eligible to work remotely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • May have or be working towards designations such as FALU, CLU, FLMI, ChFC, etc.

  • Organizing and prioritizing work

  • Comprehending complex information

  • Communicating effectively with advisors, clients and co-workers

In-Office Collaboration

We are a client-centric, relationship-based business. Working together, in-person, is foundational to how we achieve results. Our employees work in the office at least four (4) days per week, with flexibility to work from home one (1) day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time or different in-office expectations, and specific requirements will be discussed during the hiring process.

Base Pay Salary

The estimated hourly rate for this role is $26.15 - $35.96 / hour. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
