In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing the technical expertise of our underwriting and claims professionals. Reporting to the Director, Global Learning and Development, you will oversee the creation, design, and delivery of high-impact, insurance-specific training programs that support both new and experienced employees. You will leverage internal and external resources (law firms, risk managers, brokers, and other subject matter experts (SMEs)) to offer relevant, topical learning content and discussions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design, development, and delivery of technical training programs focused primarily on underwriting and claims. Ensure that content is informative and engaging, and reflects current industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Starrs business needs.
- Create an introductory curriculum for those new to the insurance industry to assist them in developing their insurance knowledge.
- Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to source, validate, and enhance training content; coordinate SME-led sessions and integrate them into the broader curriculum.
- Assess training needs through consultation with business leaders, analysis of performance data, and direct feedback from participants; recommend and implement targeted solutions to address skill gaps.
- Evaluate training effectiveness using participant feedback, assessments, and business performance metrics; make data-driven improvements to content and delivery methods.
- Coordinate and support the development of management and leadership training initiatives as they relate to underwriting and claims functions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of property-casualty insurance trends, underwriting and claims best practices, and adult learning methodologies.
- Work with other Human Resources personnel to help document and drive the adoption of job families.
- Curate, implement, and organize online materials to create customized learning paths for specific units.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in insurance, business, Human Resources, education, or a related field required; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, AIC, SHRM-CP/SCP) a plus.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in the property-casualty insurance industry, with a strong background in developing underwriting and/or claims training materials.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing, presenting, and coordinating technical insurance training programs.
- Proven experience facilitating both live (virtual and in-person) and online training for diverse audiences.
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS) preferred; familiarity with Cornerstone LMS a plus.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience collaborating with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to Starrs domestic office locations for in-person training delivery and collaboration.
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $115,000-$147,800
