About the position:
This organization operates in a dynamic, multi-faceted environment with diverse funding sources, including public and private streams, requiring a sophisticated and highly compliant accounting function. With continued growth and increasing operational complexity, the finance team is focused on strengthening processes, enhancing reporting accuracy, and scaling systems to support long-term goals. The Assistant Controller partners closely with the Controller and works alongside executive leadership, including finance and operations stakeholders. This individual leads a team of accounting professionals, including staff and senior-level accountants, and collaborates cross-functionally to ensure strong internal controls, accurate reporting, and audit readiness.

Primary Responsibilities:
Guide and mentor a team of accounting professionals, building capability across Accountants and Senior Accounting Managers while fostering a collaborative and performance-driven culture
Oversee the full close cycle, delivering timely and accurate financial statements that support leadership decision-making
Support oversight of core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll operations
Act as a key resource for compliance and technical accounting matters, including complex funding and regulatory requirements
Strengthen and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy, transparency, and alignment with accounting standards
Partner with leadership to manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
Drive continuous improvement across financial systems, leveraging NetSuite and other tools to automate processes and enhance reporting
Lead audit preparation efforts and serve as a primary point of contact for external audit activity
Translate financial data into actionable insights that support both finance and non-finance stakeholders
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
5+ years of fxperience in accounting or finance with progressive growth
Background as an Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or similar Accounting Leader ready to expand scope and influence
Strong foundation in GAAP and financial reporting, with the ability to manage complex accounting scenarios
Exposure to environments with regulatory oversight, grant funding, or multi-entity structures is highly valuable
Experience working within ERP systems such as NetSuite, along with advanced Excel capabilities
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and mentor teams while improving processes and systems
Analytical and solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on efficiency and continuous improvement
Professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are a strong plus and can accelerate long-term growth

Pay Details: $155,000.00 to $175,000.00 per year
