About the Role
We are seeking a Proposal Benefits Analyst on behalf of our client, a nonprofit health plan organization based in the Twin Cities area. This role supports the development and delivery of accurate, reliable commercial group proposal materials that help ensure a strong experience for members, clients, brokers, and internal business partners.
The Proposal Benefits Analyst will play a key role in preparing new and renewal large group proposal exhibits, Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents, benefit change grids, certificates of coverage, and benefit plan language used to support member-facing benefit information. This position works closely with sales executives, underwriters, account teams, and operational departments to ensure proposal materials are accurate, compliant, and completed within required timelines. The Proposal Benefits Analyst will support the development, review, and delivery of accurate commercial group proposal materials for new and renewing self-funded large group business. This role works closely with sales executives, underwriters, account teams, agency relationship managers, and operational partners to interpret proposal requests, prepare customer-facing proposal exhibits, and ensure benefit information is accurate, compliant, and completed within required timelines. The Proposal Benefits Analyst will also support Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents, certificates of coverage, benefit change grids, benefit plan language, workflow management, and project-related deliverables.
  • Generate and audit self-funded large group new business and renewal proposal exhibits.
  • Consult with sales and underwriting teams to interpret proposal requests and create new business or renewal proposal packages.
  • Compile and review proposal packages, including generating alternative quote options as needed.
  • Complete proposal-related tasks in partnership with agency relationship managers for presentation to brokers or clients.
  • Ensure proposal materials comply with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare benefit documents with a high level of accuracy and ensure benefit details are represented correctly.
  • Create, modify, and audit Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents.
  • Compare benefit language within certificates of coverage to confirm accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepare benefit change grids and support benefit plan language used to link Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents to the member portal.
  • Interpret carrier benefit information and plan documents while partnering with sales, underwriting, and product teams to confirm compliance and accuracy.
  • Monitor the proposal mailbox and assignments to ensure proposals are completed within required timeframes.
  • Delegate tasks to other team members as appropriate and serve as a subject matter expert for the team.
  • Provide analytic and production support for project deliverables, timelines, testing, and implementation plans.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to support project direction and goal achievement.
  • Maintain related project exhibits, documentation, and meeting records.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 13 years of experience working with benefits, health insurance, benefits administration, account management, customer service, sales, or a related field
  • Self-funded large group insurance experience.
  • Must work in one of the following states: AZ, AK, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, ND, NE, NV, OK, SD, TN, TX, WI)
  • Strong understanding of benefit documents, proposal materials, and customer-facing benefit information.
  • General understanding of operational and administrative processes supporting sales, financial underwriting, and account management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to prepare accurate, compliant materials.
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a changing environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with various management levels and cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in health insurance or a closely related benefits-focused environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Salesforce for task management or another CRM system.
  • Experience preparing or auditing Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents, certificates of coverage, benefit change grids, or benefit plan language.
  • Experience supporting large group proposal processes within a health plan, insurance carrier, broker, or benefits administration environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience serving as a subject matter expert or supporting team workflow, project deliverables, testing, or implementation plans.
