JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.

The Manager of Air Freight Emergency Solution is responsible for managing the team and support the business and sales verticals in all aspects of the Emergency Solution desk. The primary objective of this position is to manage the requirements and service agreements with our Global Core providers, supervise Emergency Solution operations, and support the sales force with product knowledge and pricing. This position will work together with the World Air Freight Team to lead strategic development. This position is to provide a new Air Freight product specific to the needs of our customers for Emergency shipment request, develop customized products, deliver the best solution and pricing, and negotiate rates with carrier. While the primary focus is on our Global Verticals: Automotive, Aerospace, Pharma and Healthcare and Energy Solutions from the product side, the secondary focus will be managing and train the regional teams and our 3rd party provider.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • To build the Emergency Solution desk, together with our nominated Core Broker and manage the internal regional teams assigned to the Emergency Solution team.
  • Responsible for market analysis and statistics.
  • Awareness of the vertical market in order to work closely on strategic development with Sales and the regions.
  • To monitor the Trade performance of each service contract.
  • To check profit and loss development for the Emergency Solution in Air Freight Product.
  • To travel to the regions / subsidiaries to support in carrier negotiation of local contracts where necessary and approved
  • To participate and contribute in meeting the targets set for this new product with: o
    • EVP Global Head of Air Freight and VP Global Air Freight Operations o
    • VP Air Freight Product in each Region
  • To drive, build and grow a profitable business development: o
    • Actively engage with existing and potential customers through customer visits / sales calls.

o Pro-actively support the sales organization to achieve or surpass the growth targets.

  • Work together with the Sales team on global and regional customer maintenance and implementation.
  • Responsible for the achievement of Volume, Profit and Gross Margin contribution in accordance with the JAS-WW target.
  • Work closely with partners overseas and Regional Product VPs to define necessary product to achieve the targets budgeted.
  • To provide support Globally and cooperate closely with the subsidiaries in products managers regarding market situation and rate level.
  • Major Challenges:
    • Work in an extremely volatile market. o
    • Get a good balance between peak and slack season (volume and rate wise) performance with the carriers.
  • To work in accordance to the compliance rules and policy.
  • To minimize the risk of having rates without coverage of a Gross Profit scenario by a proper buying rate to cover particular business.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct performance evaluations for direct and indirect reports within the Emergency Desk Department
  • Recommend hiring, firing and promotion.
  • Identify and resolve personnel issues.
  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring of staff to develop skills to the highest level.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in related field or combination of education and experience.
  • In depth knowledge in our Operational System Cargo Wise (C1).
  • Minimum 5 years successful international freight forwarding sales / operations experience.
  • Pharma and Healthcare knowledge and requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of import / export processes and laws.
  • IATA certification as freight forwarder is mandatory.

ENVIRONMENT :

100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. This role supports a 24/7 operational environment and requires on call support. Occasional travel will be required (up to 10%) in support of the positions responsibilities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently is required to stop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds. This position requires employees to frequently work in a fluid, fast paced environment.
