We are seeking a skilled Commercial Insurance Underwriter for our client in Fayetteville, AR. This full-time role reports to the Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager and is responsible for evaluating commercial insurance risks, reviewing policy submissions, and determining appropriate coverage placements based on carrier guidelines and agency standards. The Commercial Insurance Underwriter plays a key role in maintaining profitable business decisions, ensuring compliance, and supporting strong relationships with agents and carriers.

Job Purpose:

The Commercial Insurance Underwriter is responsible for analyzing and reviewing commercial insurance applications, renewals, endorsements, and policy change requests to determine acceptability for carrier placement. The Commercial Insurance Underwriter evaluates risk exposure, pricing accuracy, and underwriting guidelines to ensure proper policy handling and sound decision-making. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and clear communication with agents, carriers, and internal teams to support effective underwriting operations.

Key Responsibilities

Review commercial insurance applications, loss control reports, claims history, prior submissions, and supporting documentation to assess risk acceptability.

Evaluate commercial exposures including severity, frequency, catastrophe exposure, and overall loss potential.

Rate new and renewal policies and verify accuracy of previously rated policies for consistency and compliance.

Process endorsements, cancellations, renewals, and policy changes according to underwriting guidelines.

Prepare quotations for agents and provide clear guidance on coverage options, eligibility, and underwriting decisions.

Communicate regularly with agents regarding submission status, documentation needs, and underwriting outcomes.

Utilize underwriting systems to research risks, process transactions, and maintain accurate records.

Ensure compliance with carrier guidelines, agency procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times.

Maintain strong working relationships with carriers and underwriting partners to support profitable business placement.

Stay current on market trends, carrier appetites, and regulatory changes affecting commercial insurance.

Request and review additional documentation required to complete underwriting evaluations.

Assist in reviewing inspections, reports, and recommendations, escalating complex cases when needed.

Support agency goals related to production, retention, and cross-selling initiatives.

Participate in carrier meetings, agency visits, and industry events as required.

Collaborate with internal teams to maintain workflow efficiency and service standards.

Provide support and guidance to associate underwriting staff when applicable.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support underwriting operations.

Qualifications

High school diploma required; college coursework in business, finance, or related field preferred.

Prior experience in insurance or underwriting strongly preferred.

Strong understanding of commercial underwriting principles and risk evaluation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.

Ability to interpret complex information and make informed underwriting decisions.

Proficiency with computer systems and underwriting software.

Ability to work independently while following structured guidelines and procedures.
