POSITION TITLE: JUNIOR CLAIMS ADJUSTER
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Junior Claims Adjuster, under direct supervision, will investigate insurance claims to determine the extent of liability with a focus on effective and efficient resolutions of claims. As a junior multi-line adjuster, focus will be on Property, General Liability, Tort, and Auto Liability claims.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Examine claims forms and other records to determine insurance coverage.
- Analyze information gathered by investigation and report findings and recommendations.
- Pay and process claims within designated authority levels.
- Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt
disposal of cases.
- Verify and analyze data used in settling claims to ensure that claims are valid and that settlements are made
according to company practices and procedures.
Duties. All duties are standard and apply to all Albuquerque Public Schools employees.
- Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
- Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
- Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and
administrative regulations.
- Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and
supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
- Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
- Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility.
- Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience reading and comprehension of statutes such as: NM Tort Claims Act, IPRA, FERPA, WPA, etc.
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, active listening, oral expression, problem-solving, and dispute resolution
- Ability to investigate legal issues.
- Ability to negotiate agreements to resolve disputes
- Ability to prepare legal or investigatory documentation
REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Three years of insurance, risk management, or investigative experience, OR
- Associates degree AND Two years of risk management/insurance/investigative experience, OR
- Bachelor's degree AND One year of insurance, risk management, or investigative experience
