We are seeking an Insurance Director to join Zions Bancorporation. The Insurance Director leads the strategy, placement, and governance of the banks insurance programs, ensuring optimal coverage and cost efficiency for a multi-state, $89B-asset super regional bank. This role partners with business and control functions to quantify insurable risk, negotiate market terms, and ensure claims resilience. The Insurance Director is instrumental in embedding insurance into new products, M&A due diligence, and major projects, while maintaining regulatory readiness and supporting business enablement. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced insurance professional to drive risk management excellence and operational resilience.
Responsibilities:
- Lead annual insurance program strategy, placement, and renewals, including coverage design and broker management.
- Develop and implement risk financing approaches, including retention layers and potential captive utilization.
- Track and optimize total cost of risk (TCOR) and identify savings opportunities.
- Oversee claims governance, including notifications, recovery, and large loss reviews.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal insurance risk policies.
- Advise on contractual risk transfer and support M&A due diligence.
- Deliver education to senior leaders and the Board on insurance market trends.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required.
- 812+ years in corporate insurance/risk management (financial services/banking preferred) or large brokerage/insurer account leadership.
- Deep knowledge of property & casualty, executive risk lines, cyber/E&O, lender-placed programs, and crime/BBB.
- Experience with risk quantification, benchmarking, and scenario/limit adequacy analysis.
- Strong command of contractual risk transfer and vendor insurance requirements.
- ARM, CPCU, RIMS-CRMP, or ACI preferred; JD or MBA a plus.
- Experience with RMIS/GRC tools and data visualization platforms is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
