Overview:

Cognizant is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Conventional Underwriter to join our expanding Correspondent Lending channel. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team within a flexible and supportive work environment, with remote work availability and strong leadership support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently underwrite conventional mortgage loans in accordance with agency guidelines.
• Proven proficiency in Encompass LOS, including navigation of underwriting screens, condition management, and document review.
• Utilize Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS), including Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Product Advisor (LPA), to assess loan eligibility.
• Analyze complex income scenarios and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality in all underwriting decisions.
• Meet or exceed productivity and quality standards as defined by management.
• Maintain effective communication with internal teams and external partners.
• Participate in video conferencing and remote collaboration.
• Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Work overtime as needed to meet business demands.

Required Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of conventional agency first mortgage underwriting experience.
• Proficiency in DU and LPA automated underwriting systems.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, particularly in evaluating complex income.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
• Comfortable with remote work tools and video conferencing platforms.
