Nexus Specialty Inc. is looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Underwriting Assistant to join our growing team in Chicago, IL!
The Underwriting Assistant will provide high-quality administrative and data entry support to the U.S. Financial Lines Underwriting and Leadership teams. This role supports the underwriting process by assisting with policy binding, processing midterm changes, tracking documentation, and maintaining accurate records in internal systems. The Underwriting Assistant will also liaise with brokers and operational teams, ensure the timely handling of renewals, and contribute to performance reporting. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment are essential.
How You Will Contribute:
Assisting underwriters in the binding of risks and issuance of policies.
Processing midterm policy requests and cancellation requests.
Saving application and policy documentation to the electronic filing system and/or document repository.
Tracking outstanding issuance subjectivities with brokers.
Liaising with operational support team in Malaysia to coordinate submission clearance overflow.
Ensuring our underwriting system(s) and the electronic filing system and/or document repository are kept up to date and the information is accurate and organized.
Sending renewal reminders to brokers and ensuring Underwriters are kept up to date with the status of renewals.
Regular reporting, including daily performance data and dashboards.
Skills & Experience to Be Successful:
High school diploma or equivalent
College or university degree, with a focus in insurance, risk management, or a related field (Preferred)
2-3 years of experience in an administrative or data entry role, ideally within an insurance company or agency - or a recent college graduate with a degree or concentration in insurance or risk management
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent time management and accurate recordkeeping
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
Self-motivated and confident working independently or collaboratively within a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Pay Range
$30.00 - $34.00 HourlyThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
