Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Workers Compensation, Safety & Risk Manager to lead and manage the organizations multi-state workers compensation claims , return-to-work programs , and health and safety initiatives , while also overseeing general liability and property claims . This role plays a critical part in reducing workplace injuries, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mitigating organizational risk through proactive programs and incident management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Workers Compensation Claim Management (50%)
- Manage and oversee multi-state workers compensation claims, ensuring compliance with all applicable state laws, including waiting periods , retroactive payments , and required reporting timelines.
- Act as the primary liaison between third-party administrators (TPAs), insurance carriers, legal counsel, and internal stakeholders.
- Evaluate claim reserves, develop mitigation strategies, and oversee settlement negotiations in collaboration with TPA or insurer.
- Administer and continuously improve Return-to-Work (RTW) and Transitional Duty programs, working with medical providers, supervisors, and employees to ensure timely, safe reintegration.
- Monitor and analyze injury trends and costs to recommend prevention strategies and program adjustments.
2. Organizational Health & Safety (30%)
- Develop, implement, and monitor workplace safety programs that align with OSHA and industry-specific regulations.
- Lead and facilitate Safety Committees across locations; ensure regular meetings, issue tracking, and compliance follow-up.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and investigations; identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain OSHA logs and compliance documentation; report workplace injuries as required and support regulatory audits.
- Provide safety training and education to employees and supervisors; serve as a subject matter expert on best practices.
- Support customer and building safety initiatives , including emergency preparedness, hazard identification, and public area safety.
3. General Risk and Insurance Claims Management (20%)
- Manage general liability and property damage claims, including slips and falls , automobile incidents , and building/property losses .
- Partner with insurance carriers, legal teams, and facilities management to document incidents, assess liability, and drive resolution.
- Maintain accurate claim files and track status through closure, ensuring timely submission and response to insurers and TPAs.
- Identify trends in liability claims and recommend preventive actions to reduce exposure and improve safety outcomes.
- Assist in managing the organizations insurance renewals and certificates of insurance as part of the broader risk program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in risk management, Occupational Safety, Human Resources, or a related field (required).
- 57 years of experience in workers compensation and safety, with exposure to multi-state claims and return-to-work programs.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety best practices, and compliance reporting requirements.
- Experience managing general liability and property insurance claims.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities; able to manage multiple priorities across locations.
- Preferred certifications: ARM (associate in risk management), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or similar.
Work Requirements:
- Travel to company locations for safety audits, incident investigations, or committee participation.
- Ability to conduct facility walk-throughs and interact with frontline employees.
Location: In-person in Bloomington, MN (5 days/week)
Salary: $80,000-$90,000 annually DOE
