The Vice President of Corporate Actuarial is responsible for overseeing the organizations actuarial reserving practices and regulatory statistical reporting. This role ensures the integrity and accuracy of loss and LAE reserves and manages data submissions to regulatory and industry organizations. The VP of Corporate Actuarial will collaborate with other departments, provide expert guidance, and contribute to the overall financial stability and success of the company. It is essential to the companys financial reporting, compliance, and long-term risk strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Loss Reserving & Financial Reporting

  • Reserve Estimation : Oversee the estimation of loss and LAE reserves across all lines of business, ensuring they are calculated using sound actuarial methodologies and in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • External Reserve Validation & Oversight : Collaborate with external actuarial firms to review, validate, and present independent opinions on reserve adequacy, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Methodology Development : Maintain and enhance reserving methodologies, including traditional and non-traditional approaches, to ensure accurate reserve estimates.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure reserving practices are compliant with statutory, GAAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements.

Regulatory Statistical Reporting

  • Regulatory Data Submissions : Oversee the preparation and submission of statistical data to regulatory and advisory organizations such as NCCI, ISO, state insurance departments, and other statistical agents
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure timely and accurate compliance with data reporting requirements, including validations, edits, and audits from regulatory bodies.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Team Leadership : Lead, mentor, and develop a team that includes actuarial analysts, managers, and non-actuarial roles, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with underwriting, claims, finance, IT, compliance and senior management to inform business decisions and gain insight into operational strategies and emerging trends.
  • External Relations : Serve as the primary actuarial liaison with auditors, regulators, and rating agencies.

Strategic Oversight

  • Strategic Planning : Contribute to the development of the company's strategic plans by providing actuarial insights.
  • Emerging Risks : Monitor industry trends and emerging risks, adjusting actuarial models and assumptions accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, required.
  • Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) preferred.
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in loss reserving within the property and casualty insurance industry.
  • Proficiency in actuarial software and statistical tools (e.g., SQL, SAS, Excel).
  • Proven experience in leading and developing actuarial teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex actuarial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
