The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is seeking a Revenue Cycle Services Insurance Specialist Lead to join its Patient Financial Services (PFS) team. The Patient Financial Services team supports the undergraduate and graduate outpatient clinics ensuring compliance with all clinical and financial requirements related to billing and collection of patient accounts. The Insurance Specialist Lead positions primary responsibility is to be the insurance verification specialist for the College of Dentistry, including any satellite extensions of the CoD (Upper Arlington), and serve as a backup for the PFS Manager. As a member of the PFS team you will assist in reviewing accounts, responding to EOBs, claims, information requests, predeterminations and patient aging.
The College of Dentistry's Patient Financial Service (PFS) office is responsible for facilitating patient insurance coverage and monitoring payments on patient's account. The PFS office supports the undergrad and graduate clinics assuring practitioner compliance with HIPPA, and all other clinical and financial requirements. As the Insurance Specialist Lead, this position trains new employees and serves as a backup to the manager. Assists with insurance and agency credentialing of CoD providers. This position serves as the axiUm and Epic super user; runs all financial reports; maintains files and/or sorts and distributes mail; copies, collates and/or staples material(s); performs data entry and prepares data for analysis; performs reception duties; answers inquiries and provides customer service; checks and verifies data; prepares reports or presentations; and may write and edits correspondence. Performs other duties in support of the unit. Some of the responsibilities of the Insurance Specialist are: serves as the insurance verification specialist for the College of Dentistry, including any satellite extensions of the CoD (Upper Arlington); performs coding, verification/pre-authorization, and claims submission; processes and balances all dental clinic accounts through computer terminal; answers phones and greets customers; verifies and interprets coverage; establishes payment plans; processes patient payment and acts as cashier; mails and files correspondence; and serves as liaison between doctors, patients, and payers.
Work Schedule: Monday Friday 7:30am 4:30pm . This position may require some weekend or evening work for special projects.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions. This position requires sustained periods using a keyboard and performing other computer work. Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks. Ability to lift 25 pounds with or without accommodation.
T he Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $18.35 to $24.00. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.
Required:
- High School diploma or GED
- 4 years Dental/Medical Office front desk, operations, scheduling, and or billing experience, proven experience guiding and coordinating workflow, showing initiative to assist on large projects through indirect management of staff, proven ability to communicate effectively with higher levels of leadership, and make independent decisions, and or equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired:
- 6-10 years Dental/Medical Office experience, knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) software; very detailed oriented; developed organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; a high level of proficiency using Microsoft Office in a business environment; ability to complete appropriate correspondence to maintain patient communication; self-motivated individual capable of making informed decisions independently; open to develop and create on-going process improvements; working as a team member and has high level of emotional intelligence; able to develop positive working relationships with a diverse population; creates and analyzes patient data with a high level of accuracy. Previous experience in training and/or business office operations preferred. Previous Revenue Cycle and Electronic Health Record training experience in developing curriculum, training plans and teaching materials strongly recommended.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.
