OverviewThe Broker Placement - Assistant Vice President independently manages the marketing and placement of new account opportunities and the renewal remarketing of moderate to highly complex coverage portfolios. This senior strategic resource focuses on maximizing best-in-class opportunities for new business placement and customer retention.
The role serves as an advisor and consultant, managing a diverse portfolio of clients typically with hard-to-place, complex, and multi-line coverage portfolios. It drives revenue by proactively identifying opportunities and adopting a holistic approach to revenue growth through upselling, favorable commission negotiations, whitespace opportunities, and additional coverage/programs. The role applies experience-driven insights to create innovative placement solutions that support the current and future business priorities of the Branch President and sales team members.
How you'll make an impact- Application and Current Policy Review: Create coverage reviews to analyze new business opportunities, losses, and program summaries, including recommendations for consideration.
- Consult with Sales Producers / Leaders, Branch Presidents and other critical internal stakeholders to confirm the viability of opportunities, understand the strategic placement of the book overall, review coverage terms, and ensure service and pricing needs meet requirements. Proactively set renewal marketing strategies.
- Identify creative program and placement enhancement solutions/products to address opportunities and threats using comprehensive knowledge of the clients industry and related risks, emerging market trends, competitor analysis, data and analytics, and extensive underwriting parameter knowledge.
- Submissions: Facilitate and finalize submissions of coverage specifications to qualified carriers. Prepare underwriting submissions for broking risks to underwriters.
- Gather loss reports, historical exposures, and other necessary information for submission documentation to prepare applications and/or spreadsheets.
- Develop customized insurance solutions by analyzing various policy options and coverage limits, tailoring submissions to sell the opportunity to carrier partners for interest.
- Fully utilize Gallagher resources, programs, and initiatives to ensure competitive and comprehensive quotes.
- May delegate placement of ancillary lines and/or non-marketed lines to other team members as appropriate.
- Quote Review and Negotiations: Analyze quotes for accuracy and completeness and follow up with underwriters/carriers for any questions, clarifications, or requested changes to quote coverage terms, program outlines, and pricing.
- Conduct comprehensive research and develop creative solutions to negotiation challenges. Use advanced persuasion techniques, balance flexibility with strategic objectives, and close negotiations effectively.
- Leverage high-level carrier relationships and networks to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms.
- Select preferred quotes/programs, prepare coverage comparisons, offer suggestions on improvements and/or alternate solutions, and advise on optimal production selections to the sales team.
- Drive revenue by proactively identifying opportunities and adopting a holistic approach to revenue growth through upselling, favorable commission negotiations, whitespace opportunities, and additional coverage/programs.
- May delegate quote reviews to other team members as appropriate.
- Prepare Recommendations and Marketing Deliverables: Finalize marketing efforts to create customized reports for clients, summarizing coverage details, pricing analysis, and implementation of loss control recommendations.
- Provide an executive overview of the customers go-to-market results and proposed program structure recommendations. Offer side-by-side comparisons of expiring coverages versus renewal and alternative coverage options, review coverage gaps, and provide other solution recommendations. Advise on changing insurance and risk management market conditions and inform of major developments affecting various types of products/coverage. Provide premium & rate analysis along with recommendations.
- Client Meetings: Attend and lead/co-lead client presentations and proposals, articulating the value proposition of the insurance solutions effectively. Accompany sales producers on prospect calls, new business efforts, and renewal strategy meetings to offer suggestions and strategies for coverages.
- Carrier and Underwriting Relationships: Maintain strong connections with insurance carrier leaders and key underwriters in multiple markets.
- Utilize networks of influential carrier relationships to drive competitive programs.
- Have line of site into the Branchs business objectives to best align with our carriers. Aligning those objectives with our Key Carrier partners in an effort to maximize the best possible outcome.
- Highly visible role: May act as a key contact & resource (Face of the Branch) by carriers to navigate a variety of issues/questions/etc.
- Gallagher Initiatives, Programs, and Resources (Client Advantage/SmartMarket/Drive/Marketplace/RPS): Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of how, when, and why to utilize different Gallagher resources across the division. Understands Gallaghers overall initiatives & strategy for placement business & carrier partners.
- Trusted Advisor Role: Serve as a source of knowledge on appetite, market trends, pricing practices, contacts, underwriting policies, carrier relations, and appetite activities of the markets for the Branch. Provide support to other branches and/or regions as needed
- Industry and Market Trends: Proactively stay abreast of relevant industry and market trends that impact underwriting guidelines, pricing, and premiums.
- Team Development: Collaboration/Coaching/mentorship of team members (Placement, CSO, Production, etc.).
About You
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience in insurance brokerage or risk management.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Professional designation preferred, such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter), CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor), or ARM (Associate in Risk Management).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and guide less senior specialists.
