Job Description

The SR. BUSINESS UNDERWRITER will work as part of the business underwriting team and will be responsible for making credit decision recommendations on loan applications for a variety of State financing programs. The position will include spreading and analyzing financial statements, preparing credit memos, and loan write-ups for various committees and board approvals. The Sr. Business Underwriter will work closely with other teams to ensure that all underwriting guidelines are met, the department's risk management standards are upheld, and the financial interests of the department are protected while empowering Ohio Communities to succeed.

Some of the Job Duties:

Review and analyze financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, and other relevant documentation to evaluate the financial health and risk level of prospective borrowers.

Assess credit risk by determining financial ratios, credit scores, and other key metrics.

Prepare detailed reports and recommendations on loan applications.

Maintain and update records for underwriting files and ensure accurate documentation.

Monitor existing loan portfolios and assist in managing the Department's risk exposure.

Collaborate with other teams to resolve issues or improve processes.

Builds constructive working relationships between Development offices

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.

2. At least 2 years of recent commercial and business lending experience.

3. At least 2 years of recent finance manual underwriting experience with self-employment income, including evaluating self-prepared financial statements, i.e., profit and loss statements.

4. At least 2 years of recent spread and review of financial statements, tax returns (1120-S and 1065), and debt service analysis.

5. Knowledge of underwriting policies and risk assessment techniques.

6. Experience and familiarity with reviewing appraisals helpful.

7. Economic development/business development experience helpful.

8. Excellent written, verbal & interpersonal communication skills and analytical skills.

9. Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.

10. Proficiency with using MS Office.

This position requires you to work in the office, Monday-Friday. The job is located in the Vern Riffe building, 77 South High St. Columbus, OH 43215
