Responsible for reserving analyses and close related activities for CNA Commercial Lines products, including Workers Compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, Property, Residual Market, and Marine. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Train and supervise mid-level and analyst-level actuarial staff during the reserve review process in a manner that ensures the overall quality of the analysis.* Hold meetings with business partners in pricing, claims, underwriting, and finance throughout the course of the analysis to understand the nature of the business insured within assigned products and seek input on specific drivers of the analysis. Lead results discussions and maintain ongoing communications with Finance, Claim, Underwriting, and Pricing areas.* Help prepare quarterly reserve meeting package for presentation to Senior Management, and present the results of assigned products at that meeting.* Develop and implement reserve variability measures. Research and evaluate papers on new reserving methodologies and implement new methods as appropriate, including predictive modeling.* Lead assigned actuarial team members in the Quarter close, including: supervise the entering and checking of the estimated and carried reserves for multiple products; researching and explaining the differences between projected and actual development; explaining financial results to our business partners; and analyzing ceded reserves for Schedule F.* Develop reserve estimates for small to medium sized ISO CAT events; monitor and maintain the database of those estimates as part of the Quarter close* Ensure consistent development of Claim Metrics exhibits and lead discussion of Claims Metrics meetings.Essential Duties & Responsibilities1. Implements strategic objectives with substantial impact on the short-term success for actuarial reserving for assigned product line or segment.2. Leads the review and/or performs analyses of reserve adequacy of assigned product line or segment and may complete several annual reserve studies. Presents information to senior management along with observations, areas of concern and recommendations. Works to incorporate results into daily business transactions.3. Monitors reserves of product line or segment to ensure present and future reserving strategies to achieve financial strength. Partners with Claim, Underwriting, Finance and other internal departments to exchange data and analyses of financial indicators4. Leads the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process. Includes booking reserves by product, coverage, accident year and preparation of various financial exhibits, reports and disclosures.5. Leads activities of insurance departments, auditors, and external actuarial firms that evaluate reserve adequacy.6. May lead, direct and have full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.May perform additional duties as assigned.Reporting RelationshipTypically VP and aboveSkills, Knowledge & Abilities1. In-depth technical knowledge of reserving and actuarial theories and practices and strong statistical modeling and working knowledge of a variety of product lines within P&C as it relates to reserving.2.
