Insurance Resumes

When beginning a search for a new career in the insurance industry, it is important for candidates to conduct research in order to create an excellent resume.  It is essential to view sample resumes, but to also be original.  Carefully research different formats in order to create at least two types of insurance resumes.  One resume should be plain-text (contains no special characters or font), and the other should be a more decorative, scan-able, paper form.  This will allow easy presentation of a resume in any form that an employer desires.

The best resume format for insurance professionals is the combination resume.  It merges characteristics of both the functional and chronological formats to create a well balanced resume.  Although this is the most flexible format, it is often the hardest to compose, and tends to be rather inconsistent.  This format does, however, highlight candidates’ skills that relate directly to the industry while highlighting their credentials and abilities.

There are two ways to execute these documents.  The first method may begin with the candidate’s most recent employer.  Under the employer’s name, titles such as market research, sales abilities, or customer service are listed.  This puts a candidate’s employment experience in chronological order, and focuses on the abilities obtained at each position.  The other option is to begin the insurance resume with a list of credentials.  These detailed sections are then followed by a chronological listing of employment, education, and volunteer work.

It is always necessary to include contact information, work history, and education in a resume.  This data can be arranged in any order as long as it has some fluidity.  Optional topics may include objectives, special awards, associations and affiliations, and/or special training and certificates.  These sections should only be used if they pertain directly to the available position.  It is much more effective to make resumes specific to each occupation, rather than have a general resume for all occupations in the insurance industry.  For more information on creating an insurance resume, please visit the following sites:
